January 23 kicks off Mardi Gras season - one of the most exciting times to be down here in New Orleans. The season - which runs through February 9 - gives visitors to the Bayou an opportunity to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Mardi Gras ("Fat Tuesday") is the last day of the Carnival season, and always falls on the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent). And while Fat Tuesday is the official Mardi Gras day, we here in New Orleans know how to make the celebration last for several weeks.
